When looking at the world we live in today and the issues that we are faced with, it is not surprising to find that everyone has an opinion, a belief, or even just a comment on an issue. What are these common beliefs that we hold or that we are debate about? They are politics. Now when one utters the world “politics” the general idea that comes to the minds of many Americans is the issues debated about through the democrats and the republicans. But politics is more than the these two primary bodies of the United States of America’s governmental system. But politics is so much further reaching that just the overall government of the United States. Politics can be found in various different institutions in the United States as well as throughout the world. Politics resonates throughout within a town itself or between different towns, school systems, business offices, corporate offices, religious dwellings, and between nations. Political debates can take place anywhere and everywhere, and they do not have to involve a moderator and televised access to the entire world.

Yes, politics can be discussed even in households. Parents have differing opinions on local issues of the political realm, as well as issues with the school districts and the education and resources the school districts provide. If one family believes that the school’s money should be allocated towards funding more programs that have to do with the arts and another family believes that the school’s money should be going more towards athletics than with arts, and a third family believes that neither arts nor athletics should be allocated the money, because they feel it would be serve the school district the best if it went towards fixing up problem areas of the school, such as leaks in the room or the issue with parking, that this is an example of the politics within a school district. If these concerns are brought to a venue in which they can be heard by members who can change and vote on budge allocations, that these varying political issues can all have their moment on the floor before importance from the committee voting on them can be enforced.

Politics can also be found in the small business world, as business partners debate about whether or not their goods are beneficial to the community and how they can improve their productive. If there is a business partnership made up of two people, and one person feels that it is more beneficial to donate some of their product to function being held by the town, and the other partner feels that the business should charge money for their product, because it would help stave off the cost and lessen the gap of money they are going to be losing by donating the product, this is an example of small business political issues. Small businesses can also have differing beliefs that the big business types that move into their towns. This is where the political venue widens, because the issues of quality and quantity can come into play and the towns purchases will be tantamount to who will be more successful. Those who buy from the local mom and pop shop will be contributing to the quality and experience of small business, while those who would go to their local big business franchise to buy the same items that are probably cheaper in price and more in quantity will be giving their allegiance to the big business. In this example, this ties into the community on several levels. And could even tie in with the school district. How so? Well if the school is holding a flea market or a fundraiser, they may ask different businesses to contribute. If both big and small businesses contribute it adds to the competition on a public playing field. Politics are all around us.

Even in the realm of religion, politics can and will rear it’s head. There are so many religions in the world and many people who subscribe to similar belief systems. But not everyone in a belief system believes exactly the same things. Political debates surround religion can occur in the political world, but they can also occur in a house of worship, or just in someone’s home. For some, there is a belief that the religious world and the consumer world are two entities that cannot mix. Because, for some, religion is not supposed to give into the material world. Instead it is supposed to be about the spiritual world and one’s soul or spirit or what-have-you. But for others, the material world and the religious world offers up a combination that shows how their faith has provided for them, or how partaking in the purchase of a specific item could help bring you closer to the center of your faith: be it a god or a deity or other celestial body. The religious world is one realm that is always in debate whether it be at a governmental level, state level, or within a community or solitary home.

But the most notable, but not always comprehensible political type aside from our national politics, is that of the political debates between nations. From the time in which nations started forming, to now where there are many established nations and many that are still forming, the world of politics is a ceaseless debate. There is always an issue of entitlement between countries over another’s borders. Or there is an issue of trade and a debate between who one is allowed to trade with and if they are to be charged any types of taxes. However, us on the American soil do not always remember that these debates happen. The only time we notice is when we are faced with an increase in a product we need, such as gasoline, or a tax increase on a favorite food or beverage product. We are sometimes so oblivious to the world of politics and debate around us. But it is everywhere. In every household, every store, every office, between states, and in the government, and across the seas. These politics are the wheels that keep the machinations of the world turning and how our current system of life ever-evolves. Without these politics, there would be no progress, there would be no change.
